Junior Website Developer

The Junior Website Developer uses expertise and experience to produce front end work on a wide variety of web projects. Working with confidence and professionalism, they will maintain high standards, ensuring the quality of web development services delivered to our clients, with the support of the Technical Director.

With a responsibility for the quality of work they produce, they will be accountable for delivery of tasks according to agreed timescales as well as ensuring code is well constructed, secure and suitable for the specific application.

A good understanding of front end development technologies and browsers is essential. The Junior Website Developer is a key position in a small Web Development Team at our agency, so they should expect to be involved in technical decisions, sharing knowledge and maintaining excellent relationships with colleagues.

  • Create websites using CMSs such as Wordpress, with HTML, JavaScript and CSS, and open-source libraries such as JQuery.
  • Work with the team to update and maintain content on existing websites, including installation of patches as needed.
  • Integrate website front ends with existing back ends, making minor changes to existing PHP code as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development process from specification and design through build to testing, release and maintenance.
  • Break down problems into viable actionable chunks, and solve them with clarity and precision.
  • Deliver tasks according to agreed timescales.
  • Attend Daily Scrum meetings and weekly Retrospective meetings

Qualifications, Skills, Experience


  • Good foundation in HTML & CSS, confidence in creating web pages based on flat designs
  • Experience working with Wordpress, a good understanding of how Wordpress is structured and how to maintain / update Wordpress installations and plugins
  • Knowledge of JavaScript & JQuery and ability to self-teach as required on the job, with support from the Technical Director
  • Analytical and methodical with strong problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiastic, with a desire to learn and expand knowledge
  • Self-starter, able to make progress with minimal supervision - seeks help when required


  • Related degree or other appropriate qualifications
  • Some experience with back end web languages, specifically PHP
  • Familiarity with web server configuration, in particular for Apache servers
  • Understanding of version control systems - preferably Git
  • Good communication skills – friendly, polite and approachable
  • Understanding of scrum theory and values
