One of the key questions you need to ask yourself when planning a new website, some graphic design or a marketing project is “what is my objective”. I know it sounds obvious, but so many websites and marketing projects we’ve seen lately seem to be missing the point and therefore not really achieving much at all.
The big question is “once we launch this project, what is the perfect outcome?” For most businesses, at least part of the answer will be ‘make more sales’, and quite rightly too! But perhaps we need to think a bit deeper than that.
Let me give you an example:
ABC & Co sells a product that people just don’t buy online (e.g. it could be service or an expensive product that requires training or installation). They know they still need a website, but how can it help them to increase their sales? Well, one way we know works is to make sure the website pages are focussed on generating an enquiry from the visitor.
You can get people visiting your website, or looking at your advert, but how do you get them to actually call you up? The obvious and most simple tactic is to make it easy for them. Put your telephone number on every page and give visitors plenty of ways to contact you or be contacted by you.
Another tactic is to offer something free in return for their contact details – perhaps you’ll send them a useful ‘free report’ you’ve written when they enter their email address. There are lots of other tactics we have used successfully for our clients, to ensure that the projects we work on have clear objectives and work towards achieving them.
Naturally, I can’t tell you all of our proven strategies in this article, but I’d be happy to share them with you over a coffee. (See what I did there? I’m trying to generate an enquiry myself!).
